It’s held just outside Zion National park in the small town of Springdale. Native American flute players come from around the country to play concerts, give workshops, and some sell flutes they make.

Artsy Fartsy Tuesday-Dave LaMure

Today’s Artsy Fartsy Tuesday artist is Dave LaMure. I met Dave at the Celebration of art in Scottsdale. He works in more different mediums than I have ever seen in one artist. Ceramics, bronze, glass, and painting. Bringing his own style to each of these mediums makes his work very unique and wonderful.

Vintage ice cream soda fountain

This past winter, Al was asked by a client to help restore an old ice cream soda fountain. They had purchased the whole back part of the soda fountain along with the original stools. They wanted Al to restore and rebuild the wood front counter. They were placing the soda fountain inside a big metal building they had built on the property to house the other antiques they own. They are planning on transforming the building into a small museum and they plan on serving ice cream at the soda fountain.

Here is the front counter, without the counter top. This is a great old piece of wood work.

Tropical traditions coconut oil review and giveaway

I am a fan of the many uses of Coconut oil, I love to cook and bake with it, it’s very moisturizing when used on my skin, and I have a couple of spoonfuls everyday. Since I began regular consumption of extra virgin coconut oil, I have felt better over all, and my skin and hair have been softer.
Tropical Traditions makes wonderful high quality virgin coconut oil that can be used in so many ways, and the best part is, the taste is far superior to other brands I have tried.

A wonderful guest post today

I follow a great blog that I always enjoy reading. Reinvented in Seattle, is written by Samantha, and she is always good for a daily dose of positiveness, and some fun.
She has written a nice, thought provoking post for today, that we all need to remember.

Beep, beep, beep. The alarm on a new friends cell phone went off.

‘excuse me” she said as she turned it off and stood silently for a few moments. When she opened her eyes it wasn’t hard to see the quizzical look on my face. “Everyday I take time to remind myself what I’m thankful about. The alarm is my reminder to stop what I’m doing and mentally list everything and start being grateful.”

Shock was one word to describe how I felt, but as what she said hit me. How often do I or any of us stop and take inventory of the important things in our lives?

Stuff happens. Everyday we run into a 100 different things that we can obsess on to bring us down. There are traffic jams, bills to pay, jerks who run their mouths, bosses who just don’t get it… The list is endless.  Don’t let that determine your day. It is so easy to get caught up in the little things and let them turn into big issues.

Instead when life gives you something to bring down your day ignore it. It’s okay to have a bad day, but you are the person who determines how your day is going to go. When you day starts turning for the worse stop and take inventory. Remember all the positive in your life. Start small if you need too. Think of your family, your friends. Look for all the things around you. How’s the weather? Did someone smile at you or say hello? Did you see anything of beauty on your way to work?

The more you practice seeing the good in the world the easier it comes.

What have you given thanks for today?

I want to thank Samantha for guest posting today.  I am adding a couple of nice photos I took the other day to show a little bit of the beauty around us, and something we should be grateful for.

Friday wrap up

We’ve had a great week, just chillin’ in the desert, getting some work done, and generally having a great time. We are camped right next to the Fremont Indian State park, which is a pretty cool place. We come here every year for the Fremont rendezvous. The state park is actually pretty small and consists of a small museum, and tons of petroglyphs, and pictographs on the surrounding cliffs. The road follows the cliffs and there are signs that show you when to stop and look for the petroglyphs. We took our bikes and road along the road and I took some pictures. I was able to use a telephoto lens this time, so they are better than the pics I had taken in years past.
